Dear Forum,

Would be so kind please and advise me on the following...

I want to investigate long railway threads (DC overhead powered train runs on it) for probable stray current corrosion... would you have any tips how a railway thread would look like if it is subjected to stray current corrosion...?

Thank you very much

mariolucas75: Are you referring to the track (where the wheels make contact), to the overhead conductor, or to the actual contactor associated with the train (the part that slides along the overhead conductor and transfers current to the train from the line)?

Stray current corrosion from DC train lines normally impacts other buried services such as pipes. Given that the rails are the return path to the transformer, I'm not sure what you mean exactly.

Other train tracks in parallel may act as return path as they are not well isolated. Is that what you mean?

Also: If you get a response it's polite to respond to it.

When the stray current escapes the rail for example (area of escape is susceptible for corrosion) ....
