Visual styles in ACAD-2008

A friend asked, and I said I'd ask here, because
I don't know.

Is there a way to turn off the edge-lines in the visual style
"REALISTIC" ?

He couldn't find a way, and I told him while I thought so, I couldn't find it either. And what's up with the automatic grey background in REALISTIC mode? I would work extensively with white backgrounds for insertion of the captured image into typed documents, etc.

Thoughts ?
