We are replacing some post insulators at our plant. The plant operating voltage is about 15kV. It is possible however on a startup situation that the voltage can rise closer to 16kV.

The pin and cap insulators that are in place now are no longer manufactured. The only writing I see on them is Locke USA 85 and a number 27 engraved on the top. The stem is stamped 83507. Other numbers on the top I can't hardly make out: could be 040285, also a 2300 and a UL 04002?? I can't find anywhere the exact catalog number of this thing.

We are looking to replace this pin and cap type insulator with the one shown on the attached vendor sheet. My concern is that 15kV rating. I can't tell from this spec sheet that its rated 15kV or not. What we like about this is that it is physically the same size as what we are replacing.

Will our replacement work?

150 kV BIL equates to a maximum line to line voltage of 26.2 kV according to IEEE1313.1. Maximum is usually 105% of nominal, so you should be good to 25 kV line to line nominal. If contaminants are present, be sure to look at the leakage distance.
