Little more information would be helpful. What software do you have? Are you wanting to determine volumes between an existing surface and a proposed surface? Are you wanting to know the volume of a pond in your terrain.

Need to know what you are trying to achieve.

I use autocad civil 3d. It is pricey but does the job. Might be something out there cheaper. Civil 3D can calculate earthwork volumes based on surface comparisons, cross sections and others. It will also calculate pond volumes based on contour surface areas. But again it is pricey. 8000 - 9000 US dollars.

Of course, when I took courses in a one semester surveying course, I had to do these calculations by hand and occasionally develop my own FORTRAN programs. Hand calculations can be useful as it puts you in the ballpark.
