Hello,

We are writing the technical specifications for contracting the replacement of secondary superheater panels and their connecting tubes to inlet and outlet headers in a 150 MW coal fired power plant.

Nozzle to header connections are similar to illustration z-1 in Figure PW-16.1. Header is SA-335-P11 12-3/4" OD x 2.143" MWT, and tubes are SA-213-T22 2" OD x 0.240" MWT.

Does these welds require RT or UT examination? or Volumetric examination of attachment welds may be omitted for this type of welds according to PW-16.3?

Thanks for your time, and any advice will be appreciated.

Hello

in my opinion, RT is not feasible/in-effective in this kind of joint. UT is partially feasible/effective, that too only with correct combination of angle probes. Still UT may be specified in the specification.
I would recommend MT in this type of weld.
