Hi,
I have a daycruiser (17 ft) with a volvo penta VP115 engine. When I cruise above 3000 rpm the engine dies after a while. I can restart it and cruise on at a lower rpm rate. Anyone who has an idea of what is wrong?

Mattias,

This is a little older engine than I am used to, but maybe your engine is running out of fuel. Boats have to lift the fuel up from the tank, so any air leaks on the suction side, a clogged fuel filter or a weak fuel pump could cause this. Above 3000 rpm, you're using gas faster than the pump can supply it, the carb runs dry, you stop. Cranking refills the carb and off you go. If your engine is fuel injected, get back to me.

I'm a marine mech. Your fuel pickup in the tank has a
screen on it, you need to ck it. The fuel line (hose)
was not made to handle MTBE additives in todays fuel.
It could be colapsed internaly, replace only with
Coast Guard Approved hose & stainless clamps. I suggest
to anyone doing their own boat work to buy a Seloc Tune-
up & Repair Manual for their engine/drive combo. Always
use marine parts on your boat THERE IS A DIFFERANCE.
Happy Boating!!

"rpms's" is incorrect. RPM is revolutions per minute. Class over.
