Hi Guys,

My question is the following:

Is it possible to VPI two wound stator cores that are stacked one on top of each other?
I normally VPI cores side by side, but the diameter of my liner is too small to fit them both this way. Hence, since the height of my liner is high enough I was thinking of designing a fixture to stack them vertically. My concern is that the wet vacuum pressure will not be evenly distributed throughout the vertical stretch of the tank. Vacuum requirement is 8-12 mm Hg and pressure is 75-85 PSI.
If this isn't possible, I'll just have to buy a larger liner, but I want to avoid a long lead time.

Thanks,
ES

Is the glass half empty? Half full? No, it's just twice as large as it needs to be.

Hello ManuSuissa

I think is possible, but I will review some considerations like how VPI conditions could affect the stator arrangment (Vacuum and Pressure action), then the "fixture" most be strong and heavy in order that don´t experiment structure failure.

In the case you can´t do it proper and you need a new VPI Line, I will take account only the construction of new tank and interconection with old system, I.M.O. this will reduce the cost.

Hope this can help.

Carlos

Hello ManuSuissa

We do this all the time with no noticeable difference in results from the upper to the lower piece. We are using Von Roll 74035 thixotropic resin at 2 torr vac and 90 psi.
