Wacom tablet & SW

We're considering purchasing a Wacom tablet (Intuos2 9 x 12), primarily for use with other software. However, the package comes with a high resolution mouse and may have some benefits within SW.

Has anyone used such a device? If so, what do you think? How does it work within the SW environment?

We have a guy that does installation instructions and proceedures. He mostly works with Word and PhotoShop, but also works in SW to design parts required for installations, and to create illustrations for his manuals.

He likes his Wacom tablet very much, and I think this is because he is used to the interface due to the other software and processes he goes through. I tried using SW with tablet input device for about 5 mins and promptly reconnected my Logitech Marble Mouse.

Dang. You must be rich, or at least independantly wealthy to have a marble mouse. Where did you get a marble mouse? Europe, Italy, where?

I tried using the Trackman Mouse, and I found that my thumb just didn't have the manual dexterity. It was an effort to move my pointer where I wanted it to go. With the Marble Mouse, I can use my index and middle fingers to move the pointer, and can get very accurate with it (better control).

I had to use that mouse for 2 weeks to build the muscles and the dexterity up in my thumb to use it. I did stop using it for a few days because of the muscle pain, but once I got rested my thumb and started using it again, it was breeze. I have been using it for at least 3-4 years now. A lot easier than a standard mouse to me. I don't have to pick up the mouse nor do I have to move my wrist anymore when using it. Also IMO better than a pad and A lot easier on the entire arm now.

Which one do you have (the trackman you didn't like)? Is it the older type of trackman? If so, do you still have it and want to get rid of it? I'm tring to find some of the older ones, because the newer ones are to small for me hands.
