Does anyone know if there is a minimum height requirement for a concrete wall secondary containment for AGHST's?

I have read that the containment volume should be adequate to contain the volume of the largest tank plus have sufficient freeboard for a 100 year storm event (for a 24 hr period?) & that is typically 110% of the largest tank; but is there any minimum (or maximum) requirement for the wall height (i.e., the sides) of the spill containment area?

You have to check the local requirements in the area that you are working. Each area may be slightly different.

USEPA says:
“All bulk storage tank installations should be constructed so that a secondary means of containment is provided for the entire contents of the largest single tank plus sufficient freeboard to allow for precipitation.”

"An exterior containment area must be designed to contain a 25 year/24 hour rainfall."

It is generally the volume of the largest tank in the containment area plus the max. 24 hour storm event (if outdoors). I have seen 100 or 110% of the volume.

I have never seen the minimum or maximum height of the wall specified. Note that generally if you go above 18 inches in wall height, you need a ladder or stairway.

Bottom line is that you need to check the local and state requirements where you are working as they may differ from USEPA. You have to pick the worst case.

thanks bimr. this confirms what i wa suspecting. i live in georgia. i already contacted the state EPA department. what other local jurisdiction would you suggest i contact?
