I'm trying to create 3D Text in I-Deas using "Wamware."
I'm using I-Deas 10m1 on Windows 2000
I log onto I follow the instructions and a folder containing mytext.prg is downloaded.
In I-Deas (master modeler)I go to file, program files, run,
browse to mytext.prg file and double click. I get the message - Invalid input on line 1 of command input file D:\mytext.prg and no 3d text.

Any help would be appreciated

Unfortunately that program file was written for MS3 it would need re-writting to have it working in MS10.

Can you not get what you need from the Wireframe Fonts option.?

I have tried a mytext.prg with I-DEAS 10, and it worked perfectly well. Maybe the following workaround helps:

Open a programme file that runs without problems in your text editor. Delete all lines except the last one (it should be "E : **** END OF SESSION ****" folowed by an empty line). The last empty line is required, otherwise the file doesn't run. Copy the content of mytext.prg into the previous "cleaned" programme file and save it with another name. Maybe you have to erase the statement "E : " from the mytext.prg after the copy.

Thanks for your replies, I have had some help from Wamware
and they pointed out that the problem occurs when I "click here to get prg file"
The file then opens on my screen and I "save as." During the "save as" process my browser adds lines to the file such as :-

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC &quot;-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN&quot;>
<!-- saved from url=(0045) -->
<HTML><HEAD>
<META http-equiv=Content-Type content=&quot;text/html; charset=windows-1252&quot;>
<META content=&quot;MSHTML 5.50.4611.1300&quot; name=GENERATOR></HEAD>
<BODY><XMP>K : #echo none

If I delete all lines not beginning with
C :
K :
E :
etc. and save, then the file works OK

It is very simple to create 3D text but you need access to a program that will create Vector text and export to DXF.

I use Microgfx.

If you do not have this software I have a universal file of all upper and lower case text from a-z, all the numbers 0-9, and all the characters ,? { etc.

It is a 10.1 part and each letter etc is extractable from the history tree.

If you are not on 10.1 I could send it to you as an IGES file then you could do the extrusions yourself.

Hope this helps.

Ian.

Hello Ian,

I am trying to emboss text onto an I-deas (9m2) model. I have tryed a program called Scan2CAD hoping to convert raster text to vectors but I cannot get clean enough. I saw your offer to send IGES models of characters. Would you be so kind as to send them to me at pdd@ids.net?

Many thanks, Dean
