There are numerous substitutions you could make for aluminum bronze in water and you can get as many answers as there are people in this forum. My personal choice would be a cast duplex stainless steel (i.e. CD4MCu) for an install and forget ball valve. Very resistant to corrosion from water and petroleum processes, good wear resistance and easily weld repaired should that be necessary.

Duplex stainless steel would be a good bet provided that the water and hydrocarbon compositions are amenable to it. What quality of water is the firewater and is there any H2S in the hydrocarbon systems?
