I am a civil eit so i figured I'd ask in a structural forum. We have an anchor rod running through a concrete deadman. We were not sure what the final angle would be so we spec'd a 2" pvc sleeve to allow for some variance. Didn't think about what size washer plate we needed. Now I am trying to find some guidance. The 1" galvanized anchor rod is subject to about 10kips. Did the math and the concrete holds with no problem, just need to transfer the load from the rod to the deadman. Should I just spec an 8"X8"X3/8" plate to be safe? Any advice on where to look would be greatly appreciated. Still trying to impress the boss that I can come up with solutions without having to ask him everything. I saw something about oversize hole is bolt diameter plus 3/16". We are bolt diameter plus 1". Sorry for what sounds like a very uneducated question.

Think along the line of a circular plate (fixed along the 2" circumference) subject to a central point load (refer to Roark for the correct formula). Your plate dimension is OK considering your 2" sleeve but the calc will give you the required thickness.

Isn't he facing the issue of the 1" anchor rod "bending" due to the eccentric load pulling sideways on a rod that is inside a "hollow" (non-supporting) plastic tube larger than the hole in the concrete?

The galvanzied rod can/will bend of course, and that bent area may not affect the corrosion resistance at the bend; but won't you have compressive cracks starting at the inside of the hole where the rod is pulling into the concrete, and more cracks where the rod is pulling away from the concrete on the far side of the bend?
