Water absorption rates for different wood types

Hi all. I think I recall at one point seeing a project where two different types of wood were combined in a way that a straight piece comprised of one type of wood on one side and a different piece on the other side would bend one way when exposed to water/dampness, and would straighten when dried. If I remember correctly, the direction of the bend was controlled based on one type of wood absorbing water and expanding at a different rate than the other. Is anyone aware of that phenomenon, and if so, where I could research this?
