Water Content of a soil sample

I got soil from a lake that has calcium carbonate. The grain size analysis shows it is silt and is nonplastic. The water content is varying from 150 to 250% and the liquid limit is more than 250%. is it possible? if possible how?

Yes it is possible and your probably in a peat. You can also look up the references for flushing meadows and diatomaceous earth.

run Atterberg limits. Replicate the LL on an oven-dried sample. Gauge if the LL was reduced by more than 25% (i.e., <75% of its original value). May be an OL or an OH? Data may be real.

These soils are highly prone to long term secondary compression - i.e., decades and decades!
