Does cutting the glass using this system create any tensions along the cut surface of the glass .I am thinking to make holes of diameter 24 cm inside glass slabs of dimension 30 x 30 cm using the water jet.The only doubt is whether the cutting process can result in some tension which need to be removed in some way or the other .

Any feed back would be welcome .

This another one of those it all depends situations. Abrasive jet cutting is like any other abrasive cutting process not like post manufacture thermal forming. I would first contact the glass supplier and get his take on your proposed fabrication. Then you might contact a company like the one below and see if the have any reservations. If all this fails they I would go ahead and do an anneal as you are removing a large section of the starting piece.

I do abrasive cutting, engraving, of glass and the only time I anneal the glass is when I remove a large mass in the process. This is on thick sections. Probably not needed but too much time and effort involved to take a chance.

Thank you for the quick reply unclesyd .I am making the glass .Its a 10mm thick glass made into the above said dimension using a hydraulic press and annealed thereafter .
The glass cuts well with the diamond cutter .Creating holes in them and that too as big as this is something new to me though.
I checked with one agency that does this kind of cutting and they said that water jet does not introduce stress . I would however like more opionions .It would be a disaster if the material got fixed at the client site and then started to crack one after the other at a later date .
