water seeping thru cut

I regarded a site that required around 3' feet cut. This is just a simple rectangular site about 200'x200'.
Water is seeping thru one side and client is asking other alternative to solve the issue.
Contractor suggested to about cut about 10' from that side and create a drainage.

What is the water seeping thru? A wall? A floor? A joint? Can you post a sketch so we will have an idea what you are talking about?

What are you building? What will be at the water level? Is it a construction impediment?(presumably!) Is it all along one side?

If the area is to support a foundation, make sure the contractor does not put sumps within the proposed foundation area and pump from them. This will cause too much soil disturbance. Cutting a trench outside the excavated area and allowing water to drain into the trench then get pumped from there would likely be ok, but there are considerations that would need to be made such as the soil type, permeability, outfall capability and others.

you cant propose solutions until you know what the problem is. water is just a symptom. first, find out where the water is coming from. is there a leaking pipe somewhere? More common than you might think. If you have intercepted the ground water table than you have bigger problems.

Sounds like a groundwater problem. If only on one side, can you construct a French drain along that side and divert the water elsewhere? and, why only on one side, groundwater is often a 'surround' problem? As cvg notes, you have to determine what the cause of the flow is.
