Hi All

In water reservoir, we found damp spot and water leak through crack. Would like to know form others who deal with crack-leak in reservoir. I am bit surprised when i found leak, because tank XYPEX- water proofing inside.
Water leak through shrinkage crack within15 days after poured.
Thanks for your time and input -

Two choices.
1) Wait. Sometimes shrinkage cracks close up in a water filled structure as the concrete hydrates.
2) Inject epoxy in the crack.

I don't put a lot of stock in Xypex (or any other magic potion). It densifies the outer layer of concrete, but if the concrete cracks, it's still going to leak.

Agree with JedClampett. Xypex and any other surface treatment generally will not bridge shrinkage cracks. He's also right about the leak stopping with a little more time..if not, inject epoxy.

Hi All,

Thanks for your reply. I agreed too. some spot water leak through Shrinkage cracks, which wont stop by time.
Any suggestion for products for epoxy injection.

I'll second the sika products. Their sales/technical staff are usually pretty helpful as they have many different variants.

Was the tank built with the required amount of crack control reinforcement for a water retaining structure? If so, the width of the cracks should stabilise, and autogeneous healing should tend to fill them with time. If Xypex was used as an additive in the concrete, that should help as well, but not if just as a coating on the inside. I agree with injecting epoxy, but you may not stop all the leaks the first time. Epoxy is rigid, and if cracks are active, they can leak again later.
