It was a struggle, but finally SciAm has completed its ascent of Mt Stupidity.
I wonder if any biologists pointed out that anything the vultures eat is either turned into vulture body mass or calories, which is then exhaled as CO2, or becomes bigger vulture, which dies and then decomposes, or excreted, where again it is broken down to CO2. There may be some sequestration of some of that as carbon in the soil, but I bet it is a fine balance.

Cheers

Hah, New York was bragging about bicycle deliveries recently. I started doing some back of a napkin calculations about how much CO2 a human would emit on a 6k calorie diet vs 3k. The numbers get really bad if that diet involves anything but grains which aren't really that good for humans. I wanted to compare work done by a human vs gas engine in a car. It probably would have taken 8 hours worth of effort on Google and I didn't have that time. Sadly, that same research could likely be the PhD thesis of a climatologist.

Peak stupid is the new pandemic.

The old pandemic only highlighted the stupidity. Google up "before:2019 kn-95". It's a fake standard we all banked on to save us.

greg, you underestimate how stupid/intolerant we can get ...

SA has been struggling to fill an arguably nonexistent niche for years so can’t really blame them for moving to fill a legitimate one, even if it means “selling out.” Their articles have always been geared toward amateurs with both a decent depth and breadth of knowledge, not professionals and not the general public, so from a business perspective articles like this nonsense make sense.

"nonsense makes sense" ... a sign of the times ?

I used to subscribe to it and New Scientist back in the day. NS first went too biology (fair enough) and then both it and SciAm went down the climate alarmist gurgler. Also of course by then my favorite columnists in each had died.

Cheers

One could call it a climate of change.
