Wear resistant bondable plastic film

We are having issues with our product getting scratched when slid into a test tray. Can anyone recommend a wear resistant film? Preferably one that has an adhesive backing and release liner? Must operate -80C to +80C. Something under .010" would be good.

We use .010" polyester strips as protectors where I work, but the -80C limit is below the recommendation on McMaster. You might look at Kapton because of the temp range. If your product has a flat bottom you could use thicker strips of UHMW or MDS-filled nylon, glued into channels in your test tray. These will last longer if your trays see a lot of cycles.

Yeah Kapton was my first thought. Well, addressing the problem permanently on the trays instead of the product was my first thought, but Kapton was my second.

There are tapes from 3M often called "abrasion tape" that come in various thicknesses and self-adhesive. Some kinds are applied to the leading edges of aircraft propellors to prevent dust from eroding the metal. There may be some varieties that can withstand the temperatures your product sees.

Kind of depends on what your product is as to whether it is wear-resistant, but McMaster Carr sells adhesive backed fiberglass cloth with teflon coating. Teflon goes anywhere in your temperature range.
