What material is best for wearplate in chutes for conveying clay and shale material?

You will need to provide a lot more information to allow for informed input. Material size, moisture content, temperature, impact, velocity, bed depth etc. Is it a continuous operation ? ie are shutdowns critical? chute location ie is changing a liner (if lined ) difficult ? are the owners prepared to pay more to get a longer service life ? is the chute angle such that that there could be a problem with plugging ? What is the size of the chute ? is the wear expected to be uniform ? ( highly unlikely ) is there any chemical erosion aspect to the materials ?
That said, consider liners of ceramic, rubber/ceramic, hard iron, abrasion resistant steel. rubber or urethane may also be an option. Or make the chutes with the projected wear areas of specialty steel (not quenched and tempered) not lined.
