In some situations, weaving may not be permitted, and the welding procedures or welder instructions for the procedure are stated, as such. I have seen welding procedures with instructions that limit a weave to 3X or even 5X the electrode diameter. Overall, bead width is most important, and should be the limiting factor for weaving.
