I have a client with whom I'm working on generating animations for use on their website. There are approx. 5 assemblies that they would like explosion animatons shown. I've used SW Animator some and have recently been playing around with 3d-instant website. It looks promising.

The question I had is if anyone has any other ideas or potential alternative solutions to this project.

You should take a look at IPA. The makers of IPA also make SolidWorks Animator. They are a solidWorks solution partner so their product works seamlessly with SolidWorks. They have some great demos at their website. IPA is an enhanced version of solidWorks Animator plus it allows you to build on-line catalogs, manuals, instructions with full 3-d models that are animated and allow for user interaction. The software is a little pricey but I think it's eactly what you are looking for. Can't remeber their web adress but you should be able to find it at google or at the solidWorks web-site. I think the actual name of the company is Digital Immersion.

What other software do you/they have? You might be able to use VRML, HOOPS or RealityWave output from SolidWorks and put the animation together outside SolidWorks.

We helped do a simple animation for company by doing cut away screen prints of drawing pages with text for each configuration of the product, then they used their video editing software to place the screen prints, in between the actual video footage of the real product operating.
We use a product called Full Shot for screen capture at 300 dpi (there are other similar products), then edit the screen print in Corel photo paint, resample for size, resolution, compression, and save as a .jpg. This seems to give the best resolution in the shortest time with files that can be emailed as attachments.
