Dear all,

I have already qualified ESW, SAW, SMAW, & GMAW S.S and Ni alloy Corrosion resistant overlay for surfacing a heat exchanger tube sheet. After the overlay and attachment (Ni Alloy Partition plate) must be welded to it. The question is??

How to qualify it?

- Taking into account the area where attachment will be welded to as a buttering and qualify it according ASME IX buttering requiremnts, or

- Using a base metal of a chemical composition that matches with the weld overlay (P8 or P43) and weld it on a groove weld to a P43 base metal.

Thank you vary much,

The approach you want to use for fillet welding a partition plate to the surface of the weld overlaid tubesheet is your second option restated below;

Using a base metal of a chemical composition that matches with the weld overlay (P8 or P43) and weld it on a groove weld to a P43 base metal.
