Dear Sir/madam,

I have a question about welding to ASME IX and ASME VIII .

I'm currently desgning a pressure vessel.
Due to space restrictions I can't get around the following construction:

A fillet weld closing the cooling jacket overlaps a buttweld of a connecting pipe to the cooling jacket.

I've talked to the people in our workshop and my direct colleagues, and we see no technical difficulties.

My question is:

Does welding (according to ASME IX) a pressure vessel (according to ASME VIII) allow for welds of different parts of the construction to over lap?

Your input would be highly appreciated

Regards,

Yes. There is nothing in ASME Section VIII UG or UW that prohibits overlapping welds.

Your only limitation would be if the overlaping weld is of different material, then you would need a procedure to support the overlapping of welds,
