Hello All

Our company standards stipulate that the dotted line should be on the top of the weld symbol line however, the default for NX is below the line, is there any way of changing the default display to line on top? (Nudges John R Baker)? PPT attached for clarity.

Best regards

Simon (NX4.0.4.2 MP4 - TCEng 9.1.3.6.c)

Off the top of my head without checking could you please try editing the weld symbol attributes and let us know if that works. If I've helped you describe how it is done in detail so that others will benefit.

Excuse my stupidity, but where do I edit the weld symbols attributes?

Simon,

I'm not sure what you're going to be able to do for NX 4 and NX 5, but it appears that in NX 6, whatever option you set it to, the dialog will automatically retain that setting when you next open the Weld Symbol dialog.

Simon,

You select the weld symbol, then MB3 Properties, and the Attributes tab. Under the Attributes one is name "Identification Line" you can assign the values "Top" or "Bottom" the syntax must be perfect as you're really supposed to do it from there, but in the dialogs as John says. Yes it should be in the dialogs using an icon which I think shows a leader with the dashed line either above or below.

Now the weld standard we use is ISO and it probably does stipulate the use of these dashed lines per side, however when they do appear the meaning was lost on many of the older guys who wanting something more familiar sought a way to circumvent NX from applying that feature of the standard. This is where I learned about this functionality. You see NX seems to have no icon to turn off this feature for a simple fillet weld and we found out the way around it was to simply go into the properties and delete the "Identification Line" attribute altogether.

Hmmm, thanks for your replies guys, it's a bit of pain really, it would be nice to have that as a customer default that we could set.

Simon,

Maybe you can because I know that there are different weld standards in the customer defaults in fact NX-5 supports no less than 4 types of which one may suit better than the other. As to whether I know which does what I'm afraid you'll have either to read up or test for yourself.
