Hello everyone!

Quick question for you. Can the shell of a pressure vessel been welded to the base plate like it is shown on the attached photo? I think of getting the calculations done in accordance with UG-34. The base plate is bolted to the transportation frame so from the pressure point of view this welded flat end shall be calculated as circular? Also, I couldn't find any reference to weld detail between the shell and the base plate in the Code. I am thinking of V prep the end of the shell and get full pen weld done there with a fillet. The size of the shell is relatively small, so I can't get access to it from the inside of the pipe.

ASME Sec VIII Div-1, UW-13-e should be your clause of reference.. read it, repeat it, till you understand each word. These end joints are very critical in nature and if not done with due care and in compliance to all directives of the code, things can go seriously wrong.
