Welding Consumable for welding ASTM A312 UNS08904

Hi Friends,
My project have material ASTM A312 UNS08904. Pls give your advise about consumable for GTAW and SMAW process. Thanks

Your best bet would normally be Sect IX. However after looking (2010 version), I do not see that UNS Number.? Are you sure you have the right #.?

Other than that, I would try using the chemistry of the base material to a consumable that matches by comparing to known alloys in the P number listing in Sect IX. Failing that, try to contact the manufacturer of the base material for their recommendation.

ASME Sec IX wont tell you anything what consumable is best for which process.
For such examples, refer to e.g. API RP 582.
 
Do what denlow suggests. Also, Avesta has info on their website. Dig a little deeper.
 
Recommend overmatching with E/ERNiCrMo-3 or matching using E/ER385 depending on service fluid.
 
weldtek, I dont see how denlow's reply, referencing ASME BPV Sec II-A SA312 UNS N08904, could help anyone in answering the OP's original question.
 
XL83NL,if you looking in ASME BPV Sec II - A- 1 : 2013 to A312 / UNS N08904 then you will find some info .
If you look further in BPV Sec II - A- 1 : 2013 to 904L then you get more info
This grade of stainless steel is duplex

can you tell me where in ASME II-A I can find info on fillet material selection for GTAW or SMAW process?

furthermore, UNS N08904 is not a duplex stainless, UNS N08904 (commonly known as 904L) is a so-called super-austenitic material.

1) Ive tried to make my point gently, but I guess you didnt get it. Here's a more straight forward way of saying.
You're incorrect: ASME II-A does NOT/u] provide advise into welding consumables selection for welding A312 904L for the GTAW or SMAW process.
ASME II-A provides details for, amongst others, the chemical composition of the material.
2) Please red-flag your last 2 posts as you're sharing copyrighted stuff.

a) I dont believe AWS A5.11/5.14 provides advice on welding consumable selection for 904L.
b) As Ive said before, but no one seemed to pick that up, API RP 582 provides general advice for welding consumable selection. Not sure though if 904L is covered.

It is well documented that the matching alloy (E/ER385), deposited weld metal will not have corrosion resistance equivalent to the base metal. As a result it is often recommended to overmatch the alloy by using E/ERNiCrMo-3 or other Nickel-Chromium-Molybdenum alloys as per Avesta.

SMAW - AWS 5.4 - E385-17

As for weldstans comments regarding suitability for your project you need to do further research yourself,

Sec Part C does offer a wealth of information for those that want to avail themselves of it. My point was simply there's plenty of info out there and I encourage those with limited experience to search first and ask questions later.

I made a mistake it should be super-stainless steel.
in this table is where I have mistaken me, it was in the list above duplex., and I saw it as a duplex
