Welding estimates

I'm trying to estimate welding manhours for a design and I was wondering if there are any resources on the web that would help me. A rule of thumb would do, but also I want to know which welding processes take longer than others.

It depends what kind of work you are trying to estimate. There are pretty good tables available for most welding processes. In precision sheet metal work (oxymoron?) you generally find that the handling, assembly and location of parts, jigging etc. take a significant amount fo the total time.

What type of welding work are you trying to estimate, what are the ranges of material you use?

I'm designing a carbon steel vessel to contain gas at a low pressure. The plan now is to fillet weld a flat, oversized top onto a 24" tube. Material thickness will be between 1/8" and 1/4". It doesn't really matter to me what type of welding is used so long as it is airtight.
