We currently laser weld small Stainless Steel pins into through-holes. We are finding it impossible to do it with gold (we manufacture luxury-goods accessories). Does anybody have experience with laser-welding gold?

Our laser is a 700W Trumpf unit; welding speed 1000 mm/minute; laser beam concentrated to 0.2 mm diameter. The weld reaches a depth of 0.5 mm in steel. Unfortunately we don't seem to be able to go beyond 0.3 mm depth with gold. The cause seems to be the high reflectivity of molten gold, which reflects away the beam once it starts melting.

Any suggestions or authorative sources that may help addressing this problem?
