Should one always drill the hole in the main pipe run such that the diameter of the hole is the same as the diameter of the S-O-L on the saddle end, regardless of the diamter of the branch line? I have been told that this is the standard method to ensure a full-pen weld is achieved. For example, I am attaching a 2" S-O-L to a 12" main pipe. The dia of the 3000# class S-O-L is 2-9/16" where it touches the main run. So, I would drill a 2-9/16" hole in the main run, then perform a full-pen weld to attache the S-O-L to the main pipe?
