Sir,

How to do welding on Monel Casting. Whenever we do welding (major or minor / spot weld) we end up with a boundary mark in Dye penetrant testing around the fusion line (base/weld interface, in HAZ). No defects were revealed in weld metal. But only a boundary is appearing in fusion line.

Please give your suggestion to overcome the issue.

Sir,

SMAW is our regular process. But we have tried in SMAW and GTAM but its not working.

What is S22? its comes under which material spec, please clarify.

We used ENiCu-7 & ERNiCu-7

We have removed the metal/defect by grinding and ensured the defect removal by Liquid Penetrant testing. No defect, then we welded, after welding, we noticed that boundary marking.

I will go through the attached link and get back you, if any more inputs please share sir.

S-22 is a supplemental requirement in A494 which outlines a weldability test.

Ok sir, I will try the weldability test as per A494-2017a S50.
How to remove the defect from the casting. If we use carbon arc gouging, its getting stick on the casting and its very difficult for major repairs.

Dear Sir,

Still I can not solve this issue. Please give your suggestion.
How to avoid boundary marking around the weld after DP testing?
How to remove defect from casting?
