Dear experts,
Are we allowed to do welding on the knuckle region of formed head due to the cracks generated after forming?
The material is SS316L

Reza.Eng, if the head is to meet some recognized Code or standard I recommend you consult the same. Example: Sec VIII, Div 1, UG-78.

Regards,

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

Review some of the more current NBIC's as this case is considered a major repair and the NBIC's may not allow( but I am not sure) repairs in the knuckle of heads.

Can you send us more details? (dimensions, photo, etc)

Regards

The diameter is about 3000 mm.
Cracks are generated at the outer surface of knuckle region.
Forming has been done at about 350 degree Celsius.
Is it rational to use this range of temp. ?
Do we have any references for this repair?

Reza.Eng, give a hint, are you perhaps manufacturing the head? Or something else?

snTMan we have formed this head as a top head of column.

Then I stand by my first reply.
