P4 to P8 qualifies you for P4 to P8 only

what is meaning QW 424 as i stated.
STANLY

QW-424 IS
One metal from a P-Number to any metal from any other P- Number ----- QUALIFIES -Any metal assigned the first P-Number to any metal assigned the second P-Number.

SO i can interpreted

if my PQR IS P4 TO P8 on base of this PQR WILL Support to make WPS -- P4 TO P1, P4 TO P8 , P4 TO P3.

stanly.

No. Please see the following

QW-403.12 A change from a base metal listed under one P‐Number of Table QW/QB-422 to a base metal listed under another P‐Number. When joints are made between
two base metals that have different P‐Numbers, requalification is required even though the two base metals have been independently qualified using the same
procedure. When the melt‐in technique is used for joining P‐No. 1, P‐No. 3, P‐No. 4, and P‐No. 5A, a procedure qualification test with one P‐Number metal shall also qualify for that P‐Number metal welded to each of the lower
P‐Number metals, but not vice versa.

The above does not apply to P-No 8 base material. It really is self explanatory.

thanks metengr
so it means i have to do separate(PQR) welded coupon for p4 to p8 , do again bend and tensile testing & THEN GO FOR WPS.
COMPLETE NEW PQR WITH WPS (P4 TO P8).
REGARDS

Stanly,
Get someone who understands the ASME IX code to help you - this forum is not here to help people who do not have a clue what they are doing !
You already have a P4 to P8 PQR based on your first post so why would you do it again ?

Hello deckdee
this form is to ask & transfer your knowledge.
if you don't want to interfere nicely, please don't interfere.
don't try make engineering forms name bad.
please don't use any other language which heart somebody.
i know i realize mistake but nobody perfect that's why we are here.
have a nice day.

There is no need to qualify another P4 to P8 procedure. If you qualify a P4 to P4 procedure, it will also qualify for welding P4 to P3 and P4 to P1 provided all other essential variables remain the same.

yes absolutely, thanks
it was my typo mistake when i was replying to metengr
i was mean p4 to p4 which qualify for welding P4 to P3 and P4 to P1.
thanks.
stanly

weldstan,
With all due respect how does a P4 to P8 or a P4 to P4 qualify to weld P3 or P1 ?
QW 403.12 quoted by metengr is applicable to Plasma Arc welding only,
Regards,
Shane

Yes, Shane I was providing one example with the PAW process. For other welding processes, in QW-424 you have

Base Metal(s) Used for
Procedure Qualification
Coupon

One metal from P‐No. 4 to any
metal from P‐No. 4

Base Metals Qualified
Any P‐No. 4 metal to any metal
assigned P‐No. 4, 3, or 1
