Our Pickling line uses flash butt welding machine for joining steel sheets. During welding of the steel sheets, sparks tends to stick on the clamp, which is a Cu based material, adjacent to the weld area, as this Cu clamp is to conduct electricity for welding process. Does applying some ceramic coating on the Cu clamp helps? Or what can be done such that the welding spark doesnt stick to the clamp?

Here is an anti-spatter coating that we use when welding on and a round copper and welding on finished SS. I would give them a call and seen if they have a coating that is a little more permanent.

An alternative to the anti-spatter approach is to use an Aluminum metal spray (Al metalize) on the affected side, not the contact side, of the contact bar.
