Hello!

I'm new to Catia v5r16 and I only recently realised hybrid design is the default option set! Now I'm reluctant to switch back to the "old" way of doing things, and can't find any useful info in order to clarify what to do. Are there any special advantages to hybrid design? What is it for? What are the problems that can arise by using it? What's the difference between hybrid design with Geometrical set enabled and "classic" way of doing things in Catia? And what is a Geometrical set vs. Ordered geometrical set all about...? Please help...

Search the forums. This has been discussed extensively in the past on numerous forums.

Generally, most of us turn this off, as it doesn't provide enough benefits to outweigh it's shortcomings.

An advantage to Hybrid Design is that it integrates all the geometry (wireframe, surface and solid) into one big group, called a PartBody. You don't have to look very far to find construction geometry used to make a solid.

A disadvantage to Hybrid Design (in some people's opinion) is that all geometry must be in a hierarchial order (parent geometry must be higher in the tree then children geometry). If you do alot of reordering, this could be important to you.

An advantage to Hybrid Design is it simplifies making PowerCopies, if they contain a mix of wireframe, surface and solid geometry.

A disadvantage to Hybrid Design is that most users learned CATIA V5 prior to Hybrid Design being available, and we find Hybrid Design confusing and hard to work with.

IMHO; disable Hybrid Design

Thanx everyone... yeah, I think I'll take jackk's advice, I see no immediate advantages, specially not in what I'm doing.

hybrid design is just like pro/e model tree. everything is in order. I use V5 and I like / prefer Hybrid Design.
