I have been looking on all the shareware/freeware sites i can find for a custom property program/macor file and have downloaded the custimizable and "canned" files that were desceibed as fitting (the closest fit)what i need for such a program, but they all (so far) seem to either require customizing that i have to figure out (via program editors)or they will only allow a very limited number of properties/files to be worked with.

I need to insert custom and configuration specific properties to project assy and part files (for conversion to new drawing part and assy standards). Each project has its own directory (of course) many having 100+ files.
Is there a cost effective or freeware program that will allow me to re-use a protion of the existing properties (such as drawing number, title and so on) and apply the new/additional properties for each file in the project directory without having to manually opening each file and either run a macro or program?

Deon7,

I believe the SolidWorks Task Scheduler may be able to accomplish this. There is a section to update custom properties. Best of all, it comes with SolidWorks...

It sounds like you just need SolidWorks' own manager under File pulldown > Properties. You can standardize your properties through your templates and just access them directly at that location. Custom Property editors are only useful if you have specific repetitive needs (such as combo-boxes to select established values from). I recommend against actual programs that require purchasing unless you have global editing needs (e.g., hundreds of files that need to be quickly updated with new values). Even in this case, there are macros that may do the job for free without the need editing, such as FixProperties at
Additionally, Pete is right about TM. See if it fulfills your needs.

I do recommend playing around with the custom property macros. These are amoung the easiest to modify and learn some Visual Basic skills.

The Task Manager works pretty well with only one exception...since i do not know how many or the names of the possible configurations in a file is there a way to force the TM to apply the properties to the congigurations in a file (ever how many and name variations) VIa a "wild card" or other methods?
