Someone I know thought it would be interesting to conduct a simple survey about what Eng-Tips users who are interested in this topic actually believe. Tough to do in a forum like this. But, maybe we can do a simple survey. I'll post a few different replies. And you merely give a star to the one that best represents where you stand.

I'm thinking a scale like the following:

- Global Warming is happening, humanity is definitely causing it with our burning of fossil fuels. And, humanity is pretty much doomed at this point. It might take another 30 to 50 years, but catastrophic consequences are unavoidable.

- Global warming is happening, humanity is definitely the cause of it with our burning of fossil fuels. But, we can still have time before catastrophic consequences will be unavoidable.

- Global warming is happening, humanity is probably causing it. But, I'm not convinced of the catastrophic consequences that have been talked about. These seem like they may be an exaggeration.

- Global warming is happening, But, I don't know that humans are causing it or that carbon dioxide is the primary culprit. We certainly need to know more before we take drastic measures to reduce carbon emissions.

- Global warming may be happening or it may not. It's hard to be certain when there are issues with the way we've collected and extrapolated the data. I see no reason why we have to reduce carbon emissions.

- Global warming, if it's even happening, may be a natural fluctuation up or down. The earth has warmed before, it has cooled before. I see no reason to be alarmed.

- Global warming, if it's occurring, may be natural. But, there seems to some really nasty politics tied up in this. So much so, that I don't trust most of what is said by the media on the subject.

- We're being lied to for political reasons. There really isn't any proven science behind the theory. There is something of an academic conspiracy in that anyone who voices a opinion against global warming is pushed out of their position or gets their funding cut off. Those scientists exist, but they're intentionally being silenced or black listed.
