I was using the QSELECT command trying to debug a problem in a Acad 2k2 DWG and found that my object count was 685665 for an object type called 'multiple'. After deleting these objects my file went from 39mb to 69kb, and there was virtually nothing left in the file...

What exactly is a 'multiple' object type?

The object type is the selection criteria you want to select. If it is on Multiple it will select all object types in your drawing. If you only want to select certain object types, you use the pull down for the object type and select the type of object you want to select ie blocks, 3d solids etc.

after you issue the quick selet command (if nothing is selected, Acad assumes that you are "searching the entire drawing")

if you pick on the drop down arrow (to the right of "mulitple") you will see what Acad is calling multiple.

now highlight one line then issue the quick selet,
instead of "multiple" you should see "line" for the type of object you had highlighted before you quick selected.

i mainly use quick select to "filter objects" that other users fail to place on seperate layers.

hope this helps
