For a slab supported by shear walls only what formula (clause) in ACI should I use to check for punching shear and normal shear in the slab ?

Which version on ACI are you using?

I like to debate structural engineering theory -- a lot. If I challenge you on something, know that I'm doing so because I respect your opinion enough to either change it or adopt it.

To my knowledge, ACI doesn't have a whole lot to say about slab-wall punching shear connections.

1) The first clip below is Jack Mohle's recent suggestion based on some Canadian research done by Collins way back in the 70's. It was developed for slab-wall coupling situations and it's suggested that it be used with 4xSQRT(f'c) as the characteristic shear stress.

2) The second clip below is the latest recommendation out of Europe. They seem to be substantially ahead of North America in their treatment of this issue.

3) You've been asking a fair bit about PT slabs recently. ACI does allow for some improvement in punching shear capacity for suitably prestressed slabs.

As you can see, North American practitioners need to exercise some judgment on this one.
