There is the whole "hanging a load below the neutral axis" thing. I just emailed the Simpson Rep. on the timeframe for a custom skewed HU hanger. I'll try to convince the contractor to go that route as I do not feel like designing a hanger right now.You could notch the LVL, bevel cut it, and screw a ledger into the supporting beam. LVL will work in shear. It will be difficult getting 2.5K to work for the ledger connection.
I'll leave this here just in case ---> https://app.strongtie.com/hs
I'm not convinced this really matters. Simpson hangers are often not the full beam depth. There is the whole "hanging a load below the neutral axis" thing.
I've spec'd some skewed and some sloped (and sometimes both) Simpson hangers and heard no complaints. I have noticed more people just getting their favorite steel guy to fabricate custom connectors to match Simpson ones these days just because Simpson has been so slow. We spec a ton of CCQM around here and they are like gold if you can get them. Lot of guys just get them custom in a couple of days. There is the whole "hanging a load below the neutral axis" thing. I’ve seen cross-grain bending failures irl. I’ll dig up pics today. It definitely matters; it’s just that the NA thing is only a rule of thumb. It can definitely still happen thereover.I'm not convinced this really matters.
