What is needed to make an explosive machine at home (stress machine)?

I want to build a simple machine to determine the mechanical characteristics of metals.
I have a screw press, a dynamometer, an indicator micrometer. I plan to buy a strain gauge.
what can you advise?

Make it skookum as frig'. You want the test material to stretch; not your frame.

Study some of the existing machines which do what you want to do. Those people have given their equipment considerable thought in the building and its functioning. Then see what you can come up with, given what you’ve got.

buy a loadcell (to measure to load applied).

buy a lot of steel (to make your test frame).

buy several strain gauges (!) and a computer/laptop.

read everything you can on strength testing.

plan to sink a lot of time and money into this.

I recommend a means to automatically record all your values as your run the tests. Your hands will be full with the machinery.

It's "hell for stout", hell bent is a different term, though there is a hell-bent brewery.

Not sure how a tensile tester is explosive...loud sounds at breaking point, sure, but not a classic explosion.
