Hello forum,

I was referring external pressure table for HA-5. for each temp value & 2nd value of A factor, B factor is written as VALUE P.L., for eg., For temp = 20 deg & A fact = 0.00134, B factor = 131 P.L.
What is meaning of this P.L.?. I went to corresponding chart Fig. HA-5, ASME Sec VIII Div UG-28 caln and also the ASME interpretation but couldn't find the its meaning or any expiation related to it.
Any idea?

GD_P, a quick comparison of Chart HA-5 with Table HA-5 makes me think it stands for "Proportional Limit", i.e. where the "A" and "B" data cease to have a linear relation. I see it in Table NFN-15 as well, but didn't find it in any of the other Tables.

I hadn't noticed before either the different formats for the "B" value. Some are numbers less than 1.0 x powers of ten, some are numbers greater than one x powers of ten, some just whole numbers as in HA-5.

Always some new oddball thing about the Code to learn I guess :)

Mike

The problem with sloppy work is that the supply FAR EXCEEDS the demand

See ASME II D Appendix 5
5-1200 STRESS-STRAIN CURVES
……the minimum yield strength, modulus of elasticity, and proportional limit, for materials
where a proportional limit can be identified, shall be reported for each temperature.

Okay, so it stands for Proportional Limit.
Thank you all for your comments.

Always some new oddball thing about the Code to learn I guess :), because you use code with an eagle eye:)

GD_P, you can learn a lot about the Code just by reading it :)
