Could anyone tell me what "sand screw" is in pipeline construction undersea?

Here's a video of one; you can't realistically drill and expect loose sand to consolidate. so what you do is move the snd with a kind of Archimedes' screw, and get the sand out of the way, so you can do your thing on the solid stuff below. It's used in mining more than in drilling, from what I've seen of them. Robfitter

Robfitter, is a sand screw similar in design to a cork screw (in pitch dimension between threads and in the diameter of the thread)?
