Hi everyone,
Just wondering what is the primary reason to have double rim joist for wood frame structure. I have seem some engineer doing that for exterior shear walls. Is it for the purpose of transferring shear force from upper floor to lower floor? If that is the case why don't they just use higher strength wood instead of doubling it?
The reason I am asking this is because by doing so my bearing length at the exterior wall gets reduced to only 2.5" for 6" wall...
Thanks,
Alex
