I was asked to find out the chemical composition of #6 oil. I thought that would be a relatively easy task. First, I turned to my Marks' Mechanical Engineers Handbook for the answer; no real answer on this grade of oil. Then I turned to Google for an internet search. I spent a couple of enlightening hours reading. I found suppliers, refiners, MSDS sheets, and various other factoids. But the chemistry remained elusive. Obviously, it is a complex hydrocarbon but it appears to be widely varied in it's makeup. So, seeking someone who might have a handle on the typical range of values for items as: ultimate analysis (C, H, S, N, O), HHV, degrees API, specific gravity, etc. Thank you.
