What is the purpose of Red and White stripes on Level glass gauge? 1

Dear Instrumentation experts, Could you please suggest, What is the purpose of Red and White stripes on Level glass gauge? ( simple hollow transparent tube ). This level tube is installed at open to atmosphere water tank.
