What is the relation between End time and Steps in simulation control?

Hello everyone.
I am simulating an impact test of my actuator. I noticed that when I keep my end time as 5 seconds and steps at 5000, i get a value different from the simulation with the same time but 10000 steps. How do i understand which numbers are to use for these two parameters in my simulation. How do i decide which gives me the correct value.

There's no harm in using a higher time resolution than a lower one (except in some weird cases). As such 10000 steps in 5 seconds is 'better' than 5000. Beacuse of the way the solver works there may not be much difference between them.
