What does this SYMBOL mean in a drawing? Can someone please help me understand?

Looks like someone getting extra mileage out of the dimension origin symbol.

It is a parting line symbol, you must be working on a Casting.

No. This is a dimension origin symbol. Parting line symbol is supposed to be diamond-shaped.

We have always used this type of symbol for a parting line for our casting for years. I never have looked into it. Thanks for the correction Jassco

It is nonmandatory that every company must conform to any particular standard system.

Maybe they "upgraded" the origin symbol because it felt convenient. I always say, ask the one who's signature is in the title block.
