This is a German designation for a martensitic stainless steel that is now obsolete. The standard grade is now X39CrMo17-1 (1.4122) according to DIN EN 10088-2, -3, etc. As far as I can tell there is no equivalent grade in North America. The 15.5-17.5 Cr content is higher than Type 420, and since this also contains Mo & V with a C content of ~ 0.4, no standard grade is really even close. Talk to Cartech about your application and see what they think.
