What kind of guidelines which are used in designing access road for heavy construction activities ? In particular, this is a remote area, and plan to build a hydro project. The road will be used to deliver construction materials (aggregates, concrete, steel, etc.), borrow materials (via 50T rock wagons), construction cranes, etc.

It will be a unpaved, gravel road, about 10m wide. Any requirements for maximum grade, speed, road curves, superelevation, Stopping and sight distances, etc. Are most guidelines (AASHTO, etc) designed for regular vehicle and standard trucks only, and would they be applicable here ?

I assume this will also be a private road, but can become permanent access road afterwards.

Thanks for info

See similar response in "Geotechnical"...

AASHTO and other empirical methods intended for "standard" vehicles. For these applications, better to use elastic layer or finite element approach.

Post your email and I will send you a paper I wrote on the subject a few years back.
